The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the oldest Hispanic/Latino/a/x civil rights organization in the United States. We are a volunteer-based organization that empowers Latinos and builds strong Latino communities. Our Mission is to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health and civil rights of the Hispanic/Latino/a/x population. LULAC has over 1000 Councils across the U.S., five are in the state of Kansas: Topeka, Garden City, Liberal, Manhattan/K-State, and Dodge City. Our Kansas LULAC Scholarship Fund was established to assist Latino/a/x Kansas students in completing their college education. ❏ High school seniors and continuing undergraduate college students preparing to enroll in a minimum of six credit hours in a post-secondary institution (community college, technical school, university, adult education program, etc.).
❏ Have completed high school diploma or GED at the time scholarship funds are disbursed, between late July and early August (2020-2021 academic year) or as proof of enrollment is submitted.
❏ A strong balance of grade point average (GPA), involvement and leadership in school and/or community activities, and well-written essay is expected in addition to submitting complete application materials.
Scholarship amounts and number of recipients will be determined on the quality and quantity of applications received, and availability of funds. Awards will be mailed directly to the applicant’s attending education institution once confirmation of enrollment for the fall 2020 semester is received. Applicants will receive notification by Friday, April 17. Awardees will be recognized during the 2020 Kansas LULAC State Convention on April 25 in Garden City, KS.
Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:
● All materials submitted prior to deadline (application form, letter of reference, transcripts, and content of essay responding to all questions.)
● Evidence of academic merit and school/community involvement and leadership.
● Financial need and grade point average (GPA) will be taken into consideration.
